Visitor Visa

There are a range of visitor visas that allow you to come to New Zealand for a holiday or to visit friends and family. Some special visitor visas also allow other activities like short term study or some business activities.


  • Proof of Identity,
  • Medical examination report and chest x-ray as proof of your good health depending on the length of your stay,
  • Police Clearance Certificate (depending on the length of your stay) as proof of your good character, 
  • Supporting personal information that your intentions are genuine, 
  • Evidence of relationship, if you intend to bring your partner and children, 
  • Medical and travel insurance for the length of your stay or declaration that you will pay the costs of any health care or medical assistance,
  • Evidence of funds to support your stay, and
  • Evidence of onward travel. 
  • Generally a visitor visa is granted for a maximum of up to nine months in an eighteen month period. However, this can be extended for another three months if you have a special reason and may have specific conditions.

Student Visa

You will need to get a student visa if you are planning on studying in New Zealand for longer than three months.

  • Proof of Identity,
  • Medical examination report and chest x-ray as proof of your good health,
  • Police Clearance Certificate as proof of your good character, 
  • Supporting personal information that your intentions are genuine, 
  • Offer of Placement from an approved education provider, 
  • Evidence you have paid and/or capable of paying the tuition fees,
  • Medical and travel insurance for the length of your stay,
  • Evidence of funds of at least NZ $1,250 per month to support your stay. 
  • Study full-time at the course – this includes schools, tertiary (study after secondary school) and English language study.
  • Work part-time up to 20 hours a week while studying or full-time in the holidays, depending on your visa conditions.
  • Live by yourself above a certain age, otherwise you will need to come with your parent or legal guardian.
